What does iRest stand for, anyway?

iRest stands for Integrative Restoration, and was derived from the ancient practice of Yoga Nidra and combined with principles of Western neuroscience. In short, this meditation takes an approach of welcoming every experience as a messenger, and allows us to conduct a process of self-inquiry, in which we can more closely examine our thoughts, emotions, sensations, and learn to greet each moment with acceptance and peace.

Who benefits from iRest?

iRest has existed for well over 20 years, and was founded by Dr. Richard Miller, a clinical psychologist, author and scholar of yoga; this transformative meditation practice is evidence-based, and has proven to be highly effective in chronic pain management and treatment for those with Post Traumatic Stress:

“Based on current studies with iRest in the military, the Defense Centers of Excellence has approved iRest as a Complementary and Alternative Medicine warranting continuing research for its use in the treatment of PTSD. In addition, the U.S. Army Surgeon General has listed Yoga Nidra (based on research with iRest) as a Tier 1 approach for addressing Pain Management in Military Care. iRest has been shown to be effective in scientific trials for conditions including chronic pain, sleep problems, depression and anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).”
